REVIEW: Sanctuary Bay By: Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz

REVIEW: Sanctuary Bay By Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz

Series: (Stand Alone)

Published By: St. Martin's Griffin

Genres: Young Adult, Mystery, and Thriller
Format: Hardcover
RATING: 3.5 Stars
Pages: 320 pages
Synopsis (from Goodreads)

In this genre-bending YA thriller, will Sarah Merson's shiny new prep school change her life forever or bring it to a dark and sinister end?

When Sarah Merson receives the opportunity of a lifetime to attend the most elite prep school in the country-Sanctuary Bay Academy-it seems almost too good to be true. But, after years of bouncing from foster home to foster home, escaping to its tranquil setting, nestled deep in Swans Island, couldn't sound more appealing. Swiftly thrown into a world of privilege and secrets, Sarah quickly realizes finding herself noticed by class charmer, Nate, as well as her roommate's dangerously attentive boyfriend, Ethan, are the least of her worries. When her roommate suddenly goes missing, she finds herself in a race against time, not only to find her, but to save herself and discover the dark truth behind Sanctuary Bay's glossy reputation.

In this genre-bending YA thriller, Sanctuary Bay by Laura J. Burns and Melinda Metz, Sarah's new school may seem like an idyllic temple of learning, but as she unearths years of terrifying history and manipulation, she discovers this "school" is something much more sinister.

I received a copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway, in exchange for a honest review. This in no way affects my opinion.

This book does a fantastic job in really pulling the reader in! The second I started this book, I was already pulled in and didn't want to put it down. This book also does a great job on really keeping you one your toes. There was always something happening and it constantly left you guessing on what was going to happen. That ending was honestly, FANTASTIC! It felt so real and kind felt like reading the script of a movie!!!
This book follows, Sarah Merson. When her parents were killed when she was young, she hopped from foster home to foster home. Never really happy, nor being able to really settle down. It also doesn't help that she has a perfect memory and is constantly reminiscing the moment her parents were murdered right in front of her. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she gets the opportunity of a life time. She is invited to attend Sanctuary Bay, an isolated school that helps you turn your entire life around and turn it into the better. When she arrives there she is welcomed with open arms, and instantly makes new friends. For once in her life, she is genuinely happy. That all abruptly stops one day. She begins to uncover some of Sanctuary Bay's deepest, and darkest secrets, and realizes that Sanctuary Bay isn't as amazing as they make themselves seem.
Overall, great book! I loved every second of it! The characters are pretty likeable, and the pacing throughout the book is nice. I really hope there is a second installment to this book. With the way it ended it seemed like there would be another book, but as of right now I think this is the only one there will be. *crosses fingers for second book*

Thanks for reading!!

Bookish Crafts Fridays {TBR Jar}

Bookish Crafts Fridays {TBR Jar}
Hello, everybody! Welcome to Bookish Crafts Fridays! This is a weekly post that I created! Every Friday I will post a step by step tutorial on some kind of  easy craft that is book related! This week I decided to show you all how to make a TBR JAR! I know that pretty much everybody knows how to make a TBR Jar but, I have been wanting to make one for a while now, and thought you would like to see how I made mine! I went for a simple but cute look. :D

MATERIALS I USED:
~Jar
~Different Colored Paper
~White Nail Polish
~Paint
~Glue Gun
~Scissors
~Pen and white color pencil
~Black Alphabet Stickers
~Color Coding Labels (circles)
~Self Adhesive Hole Reinforcements

STEPS 1 & 2
STEP 1: Firs I picked the font stickers that I wanted to put on my jar. I wrote out "TBR Jar" on the front with them
STEP 2: Since the jar I chosen to use once war a peach jar (it has the peach label on the lid), I decided to take a polka-dot paper, cut in the shape of the lid, and hot glue it on top of it.

STEPS 3 & 4
STEP 3: Cut it out and hot glue it on. This is what mines looks like at the moment.
STEP 4: Next I want to put polka dots on the exterior of the jar. It is pretty much impossible for me to make a ton of perfect circles by myself so, I used Self Adhesive Hole Reinforcements.

STEPS 5 & 6
STEP 5: I placed them in the pattern that I wanted on the jar.
STEP 6: I used white nail polish instead of paint. The first trial I did with this failed miserably when I did it with paint. However, when I did it with the paint, it worked so much better! Make sure it is dry before you peel off and I recommend two coats!

STEPS 7
STEP 7: This is what it looks like now. Now this is where I get out my pieces of paper, writing utensils, and scissors. Cut of the pieces of paper in little rectangles.

STEPS 8
STEP 8: This is where I get my list of some of my books in my TBR and write them down on pieces of paper.

STEP 9 & 10

STEP 9: I folded the papers in half and to hold them together, I used circle labels.
STEP 10: Throw them in!!

That's it!!!

Thanks so much for reading!
Hope you enjoyed this Bookish Craft Friday!

Waiting On Wednesday #6

Waiting on Wednesday #6

Hello, everyone!! It's Wednesday and that means its time for *drum roll* Waiting on Wednesday!!
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating! ;)
This weeks most anticipated read is Frost Like Night By Sara Raasch
RELEASE DATE: September 20, 2016

                                                     Synopsis (from Goodreads)
Angra is alive, his Decay is spreading—and no one is safe.

Meira will do anything to save her world. With Angra trying to break through her mental defenses, she desperately needs to learn to control her own magic—so when the leader of a mysterious Order from Paisly offers to teach her, she jumps at the chance. But the true solution to stopping the Decay lies in a labyrinth deep beneath the Season Kingdoms. To defeat Angra, Meira will have to enter the labyrinth, destroy the very magic she’s learning to control—and make the biggest sacrifice of all.

Mather will do anything to save his queen. He needs to rally the Children of the Thaw, find Meira—and finally tell her how he really feels. But with a plan of attack that leaves no kingdom unscathed and a major betrayal within their ranks, winning the war—and protecting Meira—slips farther and farther out of reach.

Ceridwen will do anything to save her people. Angra had her brother killed, stole her kingdom, and made her a prisoner. But when she’s freed by an unexpected ally who reveals a shocking truth behind Summer’s slave trade, Ceridwen must take action to save her true love and her kingdom, even if it costs her what little she has left.

As Angra unleashes the Decay on the world, Meira, Mather, and Ceridwen must bring the kingdoms of Primoria together…or lose everything.

Top Ten Tuesday #6 {TOP NINE BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ RECENTLY THAT WEREN'T MY TYPICAL GENRE}

Top Ten Tuesday #6
This weekly meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Hello, everybody! It's Tuesday. and that means that it's time for another Top Ten Tuesday!! This week is: Ten Books I Enjoyed Recently (last yearish) That Weren't My Typical Genre. I rarely read books whose genres are something I don't typically enjoy. When I do however, I sometimes really loving the book and it can quickly become one of my favorites. Here we go, here are my...

TOP NINE BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ RECENTLY THAT WEREN'T MY TYPICAL GENRE

52522479911728533022886110204190033218336965

I typically don't like the witch and wizard genre. Every book that I have read before I started this series I haven't really enjoyed. However, I have completely fallen in love with the Harry Potter Series. I started this series around last year and recently just finished the Half-Blood Prince. Can't wait to start the last in the series!

This book is a mystery. I don't really have anything against mysteries, it's just that I haven't read many.

I usually stay away from memoirs but, Shane Dawson is honestly amazing. He is one of my favorite youtubers and I loved his book!

I usually try to stay away from the books that I know are going to be a depressing read. This book is about someone who lost her brother and is going through a really tough time. This book goes over death, depression, and mental illnesses. Even though I was wary to read this, I loved it so much! It was an amazing book.

I usually try to stay away from memoirs. I don't really enjoy them but, this one I couldn't resist. Dan and Phil are two of my favorite youtubers and I loved every second of this book!

Like I said, not really into the witch and wizard genre but, while reading this book, it quickly became one of my all time favorites. So far, it is my favorite book in the series!

That's it for this Top Ten Tuesday! Share with me your Top Ten Tuesdays!

Bookish Crafts Fridays! {Tassel Bookmarks}

Bookish Crafts Fridays {Tassel Bookmarks}

Hello, everybody! Welcome to Bookish Crafts Fridays! This is a weekly post that I created! Every Friday I will post a step by step tutorial on some kind of  easy craft that is book related! This week I decided to show you all how to make a Tassel Bookmark. I LOVE books marks that have a little bit extra flair to them! I like it when books marks have the ribbon or tassel tied to the end of them. Let's jump right in!

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
~Scissors
~Cardboard Burlap (or any type of Burlap)
~String
~Hot Glue Gun (optional)
~ A piece of decorative paper (optional)

STEPS 1 and 2

STEP 1: First pick out the color string you will be using. I recommend that you get some string that looks similar to this, that have the paper cuffs around them. You don't necessarily have to but, it will definitely be much easier!!
STEP 2: Take off the paper cuffs and separate it like it looks like in the picture. Pull the strings from the middle.

Steps 3 and 4

Step 3: Get out your scissors! Take the string and cut only 1 side!!
Step 4: Your string should now look like this. Take a string out of your pile of strings.

STEPS 5 and 6
Step 5: Take the string that you just took out and place it under your pile of the string. It should be in a "t" shape and try to get it closest to the middle of the pile of string as you can.
Step 6: Now tie that string around the middle!

Step 7 and 8
Step 7: Make sure the string you tied around the pile of string does not get put in or lost in the pile of string! Combine the piles of string together (not the two separate). Fix all the strings to were there is no tangles. It should look similar to the first picture.
Step 8: Now take a string from the pile. You are going to use this string to hold everything together.
Step 9 and 10

Step 9: Take that string and wrap it around the pile of string. When you get close to the end of your string, on the last wrap around, wrap it loosely so you can tie the end of the string on it. It will look like the second picture.
Step 10: Take out your scissors out again! Cut the excess string off. Cut it any length you desire. You can even leave it like it is if you wish.
Step 11 and 12

Step 11: It should now look similar to this. You can stop here and tie it around a burlap or you can decorate your burlap!
Step 12: Like I said, totally optional! Take out your glue gun and the piece of paper that you wish to glue onto your burlap. Cut the piece of paper so it fits onto your burlap. Once you have the piece of paper, place glue onto the paper (I put dots of glue on each corner, but you can do all around).

Step 13

Step 13: Place the paper on the burlap! It should now look like this.

Step 14

Step 14: Tie the tassel you just made onto the burlap and your done! Great job!!!

I also did different sizes of tassel. You can add more string if you would like it bigger or you can to take away string to make it smaller.
