Waiting on Wednesday #23

Hello, everyone!! It's Wednesday and that means its time for *drum roll* Waiting on Wednesday!!
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating! ;)
This weeks most anticipated read is A World Without You by Beth Revis
RELEASE DATE: July 19, 2016

27272505Seventeen-year-old Bo has always had delusions that he can travel through time. When he was ten, Bo claimed to have witnessed the Titanic hit an iceberg, and at fifteen, he found himself on a Civil War battlefield, horrified by the bodies surrounding him. So when his concerned parents send him to a school for troubled youth, Bo assumes he knows the truth: that he’s actually attending Berkshire Academy, a school for kids who, like Bo, have "superpowers."

At Berkshire, Bo falls in love with Sofia, a quiet girl with a tragic past and the superpower of invisibility. Sofia helps Bo open up in a way he never has before. In turn, Bo provides comfort to Sofia, who lost her mother and two sisters at a very young age.

But even the strength of their love isn’t enough to help Sofia escape her deep depression. After she commits suicide, Bo is convinced that she's not actually dead. He believes that she's stuck somewhere in time — that he somehow left her in the past, and now it's his job to save her.

Wow, this sounds amazing! I seriously can't wait!

PROMO POST: Code Name: Papa by John Murray, Sharon Murray, and Abby Jones {Excerpt}

PROMO POST: Code Name: Papa by John Murray, Sharon Murray, and Abby Jones {Excerpt}
Hello, everyone! Today, I am hosting a promo post for Code Name Papa! There is also an excerpt included in this post from this book! Enjoy!!
Code Name Papa Book CoverSynopsis:
Click HERE to go to it's website.
Click HERE to check it here on Goodreads.
Who’d have thought a bright, but fairly ordinary young man from middle class America who got just above average grades, dated the same girl throughout high school and went to church most Sundays, would grow up to eventually head a very secretive band of brave individuals–both men and women–who regularly put their lives on the line because they wanted to protect the rest of you. Yet that’s what we did, often sacrificing our personal lives (four marriages for me, all in the book) and our health (countless broken bones, major surgeries, even death) to do it.
Meanwhile you’re just going to have to call me “Papa” like everyone else around the globe has through most of those wildly unpredictable and dangerous years.
Praise for Code Name: Papa:

“I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in what really happens to bad people who threaten the safety and well being of our world. It was a page turner that I could hardly put down.”S. King

“I typically do not take the time to write reviews. However, this book was so incredibly riveting that I felt compelled to let other Amazon members know that it's an honest-to-goodness page turner. I can't wait to see what happens next...hopefully a sequel and movie!”Max’s Mom

“The story is riveting, once you start reading you won't want to put it down! Learning about these undercover missions involving the cooperation of several nations is mind boggling.”L. Lynch

About the Authors:

For the sake of their own safety and that of their loved ones, the writers have chosen to move forward in revealing this story under aliases.

John Murray:

A Vietnam vet, John Murray, later known as "Papa," has spent the majority of his adult life working as an undercover agent for the U.S., Canadian and various European governments. During this time, he rose from agent to the head of US Operations.

John was raised in the South by his grandfather who taught him at an early age how to survive by hunting and fishing, which all served him well for his future. He firmly believes that if he had not had the guidance of his grandfather and others who influenced his life that he never would have survived the ordeals that he did.

John, who enjoyed a very average American childhood, always wanted to be a ‘normal’ husband and father, but you'll eventually understand why that was impossible.

Papa and his crews bore the responsibility of taking care of much of the world’s evil – evil that could never have come to the public’s attention.

Now retired, he and his wife are living in a small rural Western town. As ‘normal’ as he tries to live, he will always be haunted by the visions of what he saw and what he tried to prevent or rectify.

Sharon Murray:

Sharon is a retired business executive who has lived in many parts of the US and in Asia.  Happily married to John for over five years, she had no idea about his work until she experienced his nightmares about the past.

After discussions about how she might help John, he asked Sharon to help him write his memoirs just as something to leave behind, unpublished. After several years of working on them, Sharon convinced John it was a story worth telling to the world.  Working on this project has helped John start to face some of the things he experienced while trying to be a good guy in a world gone awry.

Abby Jones:

This is Jones’ fifth book.  She also writes for numerous magazines.  The original manuscript was handed off to Abby, a friend of Sharon, who has a reputation for her easy, conversational writing style.
Abby worked with John and Sharon for approximately eighteen months to make sure John's voice was never lost in the rewrites.  She notes that both John and Sharon were wonderful to collaborate with via phone, computer and text.  By the way, she has never met John!

Abby currently lives on the West Coast. She has traveled extensively and lived in many other parts of the US as well as in Europe.

EXCERPT

Chapter 2
After a nice little walk, talking all the way, we came to the study. The butler opened the doors for us, and then quietly closed them behind us.
Panicking a bit, I blurted out, “Jake, just who in the hell are you?” He calmly replied, “It’s not who I am; it’s who my father is.”
I took a deep breath and asked Jake for a drink; he asked what I wanted and I said a Jack and coke with one cube of ice. Bill wanted a beer. As Jake fixed the drinks, it dawned on me that in every room in the house, there was someone available to wait on us, but not in the study.
We made small talk while sipping our drinks. At precisely three p.m. by the clock on the wall (and not by my watch because I had a weary old Timex), the big doors opened and Jake’s father walked in. Smiling, he asked how our stay had been. Jake asked his father if he could fix him a brandy. He replied, “Yes, I’ll have a brandy, very small.”
I noticed all the bottles at the bar were top of the line brands. Other than the Jack Daniels, I’d never heard of them. But the brandy Jake’s father asked for was Christian Brothers that struck me as odd given how inexpensive it was compared to the rest.
Jake’s father began talking about the day he’d received word from me about my injuries, where I was, and how I needed help to get home from Japan. Other than this brief review, he spoke about nothing out of the ordinary.
Finally, he said, “Gentlemen, what I’m about to discuss with you must remain within these four walls. If you disagree or do not want to be any part of it, or have no desire, I demand our conversation be left here. Do you agree to that?” Of course, we agreed. I briefly glanced over at Jake, trying to pick up if there was something I could get from his expression, but there was nothing. He did the same thing as we did: He just looked directly at his father.
His father continued, “There is an organization, and my position in the organization is second in command, and this organization is what you might call ‘peacekeepers.’ We are not soldiers of fortune; we work within the confines of the United States government. You might say we’re legal on one hand and illegal on the other. You will never, if you choose to become a part of this, receive a paycheck from the U.S. government, but you will be paid and paid well through a dummy corporation. My son Jake will hopefully be able to be the front man for your group. If you choose to join us, there is a lot of training involved. It will consist of four months of physical and mental training— and I do mean training. You will see and do things you’ve never done or heard of before in your entire lives. is work will involve going after people who are a threat to national and international security. Your wives, your children, and your best friends will never be able to know what you do for a living.”
“Now Bill, you’ve already been set up because you now, through my help and in other ways unknown to you, have a logging company. Your company is a cover.”
Turning to me, he said, “Your cover is yet to be determined. It probably will involve many things. Possibly we’d set you up in real estate, because that’s an avenue that might free you up to move at a moment’s notice without arousing suspicion. (It turned out, however, Papa decided my cover should be that of a construction engineer, hired by a European firm.) Jake, you already have an avenue; you’re an attorney.” I don’t know why, but Jake’s father’s statement shocked me with this disclosure. Who knew?
Looking at us very intently, he asked, “Does anyone want to leave before I proceed further?”

RATING:  3 out of 5 STARS
Check this book out on Goodreads!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
The streets of Arcania are overrun with crime, deteriorating as a madman named Fortune makes himself at home. He shows no mercy, striking down anyone in his path – including Nova Benson’s little sister. Devastated, Nova vows to seek justice for her family, but aside from her freak strength and impenetrable skin, how is she supposed to stop a monster like Fortune?

Cole Warner wants to help people. Entrusted to keep his family’s secret, he’s also frustrated at having to hide his gift. He knows he could do more to help in the fight against Fortune. If he could convince his sister Penelope to join him, they might even have a chance at beating him. When Cole meets Nova, he realizes his whole world is about to change. And he’s going to welcome it with open arms.

Falling for each other wasn’t part of the plan.

Then again, neither was becoming a superhero.

I received a copy in an exchange for a honest review.

The author does an amazing job at helping the reader visualize this world as if it was actually playing out right in front of your eyes. The moment I began reading this book, we were automatically thrown into action and got straight to the point (which I love)! I enjoyed the plot and like this book.

The only issue I had with this book was that sometimes I felt like the characters didn't have appropriate reactions to the things playing out in front of them. Their reactions didn't just really feel like they were realistic sometimes. Things would happen that would shake anybody up, surprise, or fill someone with joy, etc. Superhero or not, anybody would have these feelings. Like when a character had revealed his powers in an intense scene, nova didn't really seem shocked. Even though she hadn't shown any indication that she was suspecting that character of having superpowers. So, why wouldn't she be shocked, right? Especially since she thought she was the only person (besides the villain) who had these powers. There were multiple instances in this book where this popped up but, I really did like this book. :)

This book had awesome action, and plot! If you are really into superheroes then you should totally check this one out!

Thanks for reading!!!

Promo Post: The Edge of Juniper by Lora Richardson {Excerpt}

Promo Post: The Edge of Juniper by Lora Richardson

30330916
Genre: Contemporary YA, Romance, Coming-of-Age

Release Date: June 12, 2016
Synopsis from Goodreads:

“You’re off-limits, so why can’t I stop thinking about you?”

Fay Whitaker, sixteen years old and yearning for adventure, is excited to spend the summer with her fearless cousin Celia in small-town Juniper, Indiana.
But Fay soon discovers that her summer home is not what she expected.   She is alarmed by her uncle’s temper, and learns of the grudge he holds against the Dearing family.  Celia handles the tension at home by escaping with her boyfriend, leaving Fay with time on her hands—time that leads her straight to Malcolm Dearing, off-limits because of his last name.  Fay is captivated by Malcolm’s warmth and intensity.  She finds that trying to stay away from him only makes her think of him more.
Fay and Celia are launched on a journey, and each must attempt to navigate the thrilling and unpredictable world of love.  Everything Fay thinks she knows about love is put to the test, as relationships unfold and reveal themselves in ways she never before dreamed.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lora Richardson always dreamed of being a writer.  As a child, she wrote stories on her mom’s typewriter, and bound them with cardboard and tape.  She put away the stories for a time, but now that her own children are old enough to give her bits of quiet time here and there, she decided to return to her love of writing.
She lives in Indiana with her husband, two children, and two guinea pigs.  She spends her time reading, writing, homeschooling her kids, and hanging out with her people.

EXCERPT:
I dragged a lounge chair into a patch of shade in the middle of the back yard.  The shade was a great deal cooler than the sun, but still hot enough to make me wish I’d gone with Celia.  I settled back into the chair and looked at the book I’d grabbed.  The cover had a picture of a bosomy woman and a man whose pecs were nearly as big as the woman’s boobs.  I was fascinated.  I looked around.  Hardly anyone had a privacy fence in Juniper.  I could look right and see the back yards of four houses before a strategically placed garden shed blocked the view.  To the left was just woods.  I didn’t see anyone, so I dove into the naughty book.
An hour later I was lost in the 1700s, with a man named Claudio and his barbaric and sexy ways.  I was so engrossed, in fact, that I barely registered the sound of a lawn mower starting up next door.  Claudio was about to kiss Jasmina for the first time, when someone spoke from my right.  “Good book you have there?”
I jumped and slammed the cover closed.  “Holy dang!  Do not sneak up on me like that!”  I looked up into the grinning face of Malcolm Dearing.
“Holy dang?”  His impossibly wide grin grew even wider.
I looked nervously toward the kitchen window, hoping Aunt Donna had finished the dishes and moved on to the laundry, which was in the basement.  “What are you doing here?”
“Just thought I’d say hi.  We’re mowing next door.”
“Oh.  Hi.  But I don’t think you should come over here, Malcolm.”
He shifted the Weed Eater he was holding to the other arm.  My weed whacker fantasy from yesterday had come to life.  Lying there like that made me feel vulnerable, so I swung my legs over the side of the lounge chair and stood facing him.  He had grass clippings in his hair and stuck to his forearms.  He made no move to leave.
“Really, though.  You can’t be in this yard.”
“Why not?”
“This is the Young house.”
“Okay?”
“Todd Young.  He works for your father?”
Malcolm furrowed his brow.  He had very nice, thick eyebrows.  “I know who the Youngs are.  Everybody knows everybody, here.  But why am I not welcome in their yard?”
I stared at the ground, puzzling over the fact that he didn’t seem to know.  “I think it’s a personal thing between your dad and my uncle.”  I whispered, even though no one else was around to hear.  “You didn’t know this?”
“My dad keeps business and family separate.”
I shifted my weight from one foot to the other, thinking that over.  I didn’t want to reveal anything Celia would want me to keep quiet.  “Okay, but this family is different.  If you stay in this yard, and my aunt sees you, she’ll come flying out that back door screaming at you.”
His eyes widened in surprise for a moment, then he smiled slyly.  “So you’re protecting me?”
I squinted at him.  “I’m just trying to keep the peace.”  I heard my heartbeat in my ears, and I kept glancing at the kitchen window, searching for any sign of Aunt Donna.  Keeping other people’s secrets wasn’t good for my cortisol levels.
He didn’t move.  The sun glinted off his hair, revealing red highlights hidden within the messy, nut-brown mass.  “Is this why Celia’s always giving me death glares?”
I nearly laughed, but stopped myself.  “Malcolm, I really shouldn’t talk to you about this.”  I hated how pleading my voice sounded.
Malcolm studied my face, his features easing from confusion to compassion.  He clearly didn’t understand what was going on, but he understood I was uncomfortable.  I watched as he walked backwards until he was ten feet away from me, effectively past the property line and in the neighbor’s yard.  “How’s this?  Am I safe?”
My aim was to be serious, but a traitorous smile found my lips.  “That’ll do.”
“So can I get your name today?”
“No.  I can’t encourage this consorting.”  Apparently part of my brain was still stuck in the 1700s with Claudio and Jasmina.
He shook his head and laughed.  “Alright then.  Enjoy that book.”  He hitched up the Weed Eater and turned away from me.
I lay back down and tried to get reabsorbed into Jasmina’s world.  I found myself sneaking peeks at the yard next door.  I watched Malcolm trim the grass around a swing set.  I read a whole page before I allowed myself another glance.  He had moved on to the propane tank.  When my eyes reached his face, he turned his head and noticed me.  Caught!  I turned my face back to my book, grinning.
A bit later the lawn mower stopped, and the sudden silence numbed my ears.  I peered over the top of the book, and saw another guy walking my way.  It was the same one who’d come into the restaurant with Malcolm yesterday.
“Hi,” he said.  He had ash blond hair and was tall and lanky, stretching in every direction.  He even walked loose, like he was made of springs.
“Hello.”
“I’m Paul.  I’m a Martin, not a Dearing, so it’s safe for you to introduce yourself.”
I smiled.  “Okay, Paul.  Did Malcolm send you over?”
“Nope.  In fact, he told me not to bother you because you were reading.  He may have mentioned that you don’t talk to Dearings, which is good news for me because he’s always the one to get the girl’s name first.”
“Is that so?”
“It is so.”
“Well, Paul, in that case, I’d be glad to give you my name.  I’m Fay, and it’s nice to meet you.”
“Fay.  You’re new here.”  Juniper was a very small town.
“I’m just here for the summer, staying with my cousins.”
“Cool.  Have your cousins been showing you a good time?”
I thought about the skinny dipping voyeurism and laughed.  “Sort of.”
“Well, you’d be welcome to hang out with me any time.  I’m always up to something fun.”
“Sure, Paul.  Count me in.”
“You know, you’re going to have a tough time avoiding all the Dearings in this town.  The place is crawling with them.  There’s one on every street, practically.”
I smiled at him, knowing the whole thing sounded pretty silly.  But it was kind of exciting, in a weird way.  And anyway, it wasn’t my feud.  “Thanks for the warning.”
“I better get back to work.  We have one more yard to do before lunch, and I’m starving.  But tomorrow night a bunch of us will be at the ball field if you want to come.”
“Is there a game?”
“No.  We just like to hang out on the bleachers.  You might have noticed there aren’t a lot of places to go around here.”
“I’ll think about it.”
Paul walked back to the other yard, where I saw Malcolm waiting, holding a rake.  They talked a minute and then Malcolm grinned and looked over at me.  “Bye, Fay.  Hope that book has a happy ending!”
They grabbed up the rest of their equipment and rushed toward their truck, laughing.  I couldn’t help but laugh, too.  “You have a big mouth, Paul!” I shouted after them.  “I hope you mow over a hornet’s nest!

That's it everyone! Make sure to check this book out!!

Thanks for reading and stopping by! Have a nice rest of your week.
